'Lucifer' is the name for the devil, or more precisely: the devil before his fall. This composition distinguishes itself by means of a grand and fierce introduction, with a reflection on, and introduction of the main theme, which is based on the devilish tritone (three adjacent whole tones). It is a spectacular piece using some impressive effects such as a brass quartet playing off stage. Throughout the work the composers uses several sequences of Bach chorales. On the one hand, this composition symbolizes the turbulent times in the world, and on the other hand it is meant to be sort of refuge, with room for contemplation. It is an excellent choice for bands that like epic pieces with a broad background story and are into impressive melodic music making.
